On the Hunt again--Feb 24th

We are again hunting penguins!! here is what we found today!

His foot is hiding his name! He is located at a private residence and we were asked not to give out the address.

Party!

The story of Party:
Party is privately owned and is currently located in a backyard. His owners are previous Zoo Donors. Party is one of the original 5 penguins and was on display at the Penguin Ball when his owners saw him and decided to purchase him. The owners are trying to get in contact with the original artist to have him repainted and sealed. If unable to have the original artist repaint Party, the owners are willing to seek another penguin's artist if they keep party as much original as possible.

Penguin Hunting Again

Today I went penguin hunting on my own, here is what I found!

Trizec, The Office Penguin

Located inside Williams Tower II at 2 W 2nd St

I have been told this is Bail Bonds Dude but she did not have a name plate.

Her name plate is weather worn. She is located at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ at 913 S Boulder Ave

Buddy the Penguin

Located outside Acorn Advisers at 1874 S Boulder Ave

Again a weather worn nameplate, she is outside of Pengaro's at 1708 Utica Square

Located at Channing Day School at All Souls Unitarian Church at 2952 S Peoria Ave

Winona

Located outside of Ranch Acres Wine and Spirits at 3324 E 31st St

So we are going to give credit where credit is due. Our first trip penguin hunting was based on the list from the Tulsa County Central Library but was not as successful as we had hoped. So Monday morning we enlisted the help of Google. We stumbled across a blog titled, Irene's A Different Kind of Hunt, which you can find HERE. She has found a total of 51 so far. We are hoping to find all of them and more!

Feb 19--Continued Again

From the Harwelden Mansion, we went to another one of Tulsa's "12 'must see' Landmark" this time we were headed over to Creek Council Oak Park. Here we saw a stickball park.

After this we finally finished the original GIS day scavenger hunt by stopping by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (#3)

The American Association of Petroleum Geologists is located at 1444 S Boulder Ave.

Now that the scavenger hunt is complete we continue our Penguin Hunt!

After the PAC, we went over to Iron Gate Ministries located at Trinity Episcopal Church (#7 from GIS day 2011 scavenger hunt; see previous post). Trinity Episcopal is located at 222 East 5th Street Tulsa, OK 74103.

From there we took a detour to two of Tulsa's "12 'must see' Landmarks" Greenwood Historical District and the North Tulsa Heritage Foundation/The Mabel B. Little Heritage House. You can find out more about Tulsa's "12 'must see' Landmarks" HERE.

All through out the Greenwood Historical District there are items memorializing the Race Riot of 1921.

Throughout Greenwood there are small plaques in the sidewalk memorializing destroyed business that were not reopened

From Greenwood we made another stop on Tulsa "12 'must see' Landmarks" at the center of the universe located at 20 E Archer St, Tulsa, OK.

Center of the Universe and the Artificial Cloud

"The Artificial Cloud Sculpture is an odd sculpture created by artist Bob Haozous in 1991 and installed the following year. The Artificial Cloud sculpture stands 72.5 foot tall, and is one of the most detailed and well known sculpture in Tulsa."
"The Center of the Universe hides in the shadow of the Artificial Cloud Sculpture. It is a place full of mystery, as strange and abnormal acoustic effects can be made when one stands at the center of a brick circle on top of the pedestrian bridge. Many claim that this place is haunted, others claim that it is a secret entrance into another dimension." SOURCE

From the artificial cloud we headed over to The Brady District to continue our original mission of GIS day scavenger hunt and to find Brady Theater (#10)

From Brady Theater we headed on over to the BOK center (#2) on the way there we drove over a brick road and of course we took pictures.

From the BOK Center we headed over to Holy Family Cathedral (#4) to look at the stained glassed windows, but it was Sunday and it appeared as if services were going on so we just took a picture of the outside.

After Holy Family, we again made a detour to Tulsa County Central Library to check out their vertical file on the Penguins. While we were there we found 2!!

After the library we made another detour to one of Tulsa's "12 'must see' landmarks" the Harwelden Home at 2210 S Main St. And guess what else we found there, ANOTHER PENGUIN!
